What is the NOICE?
The NOICE is a modified Quest 3 with the display removed to create an all-in-one platform for nonvisual interactions research.
It retains all Quest system capabilities and developer libraries, ensuring researchers can easily develop motion-controlled, spatialized audio and haptic experiments …all without needing to set up an onerous outside-in tracking setup.
Developer Libraries
Developing for the NOICE is identical to developing for the Quest 3, which gives researchers access to a rich suite of developer libraries useful for nonvisual interface research. Some examples from the Quest 3 developer platform are:
- Text to Speech: Process and analyze natural speech.
- Voice Command Input: Include voice interactions.
- Spatialized Audio: Play sounds as if positioned at specific points within a 3D space.
- Interaction SDK and Hand Tracking: Respond to hand and body gestures.
- Presence Platform: Detect and respond to real-world surroundings and surfaces.

Using the NOICE
The NOICE can use Quest Airlink to wirelessly stream data to a PC, serving as a head-mounted tracking peripheral for voice and hands, or it can run as a fully self-contained Android Package Kit (APK) in the Quest’s Android environment.
